I am quite appreciating about Laurence’s post, coz it is reminding me some situation of my own country. In China, there are also a huge number of people do not have their own houses.

Because I was the architecture student before, as an architect, the solutions of the affordable housing are more aiming to the interior spaces and materials. We try to design the comfortable houses in limited interior spaces. The multifunctional spaces would be much helpful for the families who can’t afford bigger houses. What’s more, choosing cheap materials is also a key point for designers. But these materials should meet the basic standards for the houses.

Now we can solve this problem in macroscopic view. A sustainable economic scheme and social cooperation would be much helpful for the affordable housing project. In the future, I hope I can combine both aspects from architecture and urban design for the real affordable housing project.
